" N I T E - L I T E S " MadeWithBalloons™
-------------------- ROUSEings™ -------------------- by Graham Rouse.
THE BEGINNING"Nite-Lites" is a landmark, classic in balloon art from 1995. It was the first publicly exhibited work using internal lights in the Rouse patented version of "RIBS". RIBS (Rouse Internal Balloon Structures) Is Graham Rouse's 1983 innovation of an inside-out approach to sculptures MadeWithBalloons™. The most popular form of RIBS today are "Fantasy Flowers", a name coined by Graham in 1985.
The image above is a recently edited version of the original photo. Despite the fact that the design comes from some 18+ years in the past, it looks like it could have been sent back to us from decades in the future.
You may learn more about the beginning years of RIBS (and Fantasy Flowers) in this blog post on Making It With Balloons Network: FANTASY FLOWERS – THE BEGINNING OF “RIBS” FOR BALLOON SCULPTURE.
LATEX SCULPTURE?Are these “Nite-Lites” really a sculpture of latex and air as advertised or are they actually reflections in a window along the Las Vegas strip? Are they instead, maybe, neon lights in New York’s Times Square?
LIVING SCULPTURE?Perhaps they are luminescent tentacles of a plant that lives very deep, black bottom deep, within the ocean. Or, could it be a snapshot of the mating dance of some tri-sexual form of phosphorescent life from another galaxy?
LUMINOUS TRAIL?Are the background lights the fading trail of earlier animations by our glowing sculpture? Are they reflections of our sculpture’s light off the wings of a dozen hovering humming birds? Or maybe they are the shadow of a rainbow turned inside out?
TAKE IT WITH YOU!In any case, this image is an elegant and active stimulus for the imagination of viewers. And like the background colors, it will flicker in our mind’s eye long after we have moved on. .
